Decorating the Beach for your Wedding
Many couples ask me about “decorating the beach” for their wedding. I would like to give my opinion about decorating the beach, but this is only my opinion (based on 19 years in the wedding business) YOUR opinion is the only one that counts when it comes to your wedding.
Keep it simple. The beach is naturally very pretty, just as it is and requires very little to dress it up. A simple arch would provide a nice framework for your pictures and helps to define the wedding area. If at all possible, try to use materials that are natural or ones that would naturally be found on a beach. I’ve seen couples use two colorful surfboards to define the wedding site. Also, some have used driftwood pieces and crab cages. You can even use the sand itself. Do you have a friend that could build you a small sand castle? Or just mound up the sand in the shape of a heart.
Remember, the ceremony itself is fairly short, but then you and the photographers will be moving around to different areas of the beach. This means whatever decorations you brought to the beach will only be used for a limited amount of time.
You may decide to have no decorations at all. In this case, one of the best things you can do is have a gorgeous bouquet. That way your “decorations” will go with you wherever you are. Besides a bouquet, props are nice and there are so many available online. Signs such as “Just Married” “We Eloped” or “Mr & Mrs” are great props you can later use in your home.
You will find many ideas in magazines and on websites and I’m sure you’ve already seen a ton of them. Just remember, you have chosen a beach wedding because you love the beach. So keep it simple and let the beach speak for itself.
